The Narrative Strategy in Zahra Omar's Novel "Al Khorouj min Sawsroukah"

Zahra Omar’s novel Al Khorouj min Sawsroukah falls within the tradition of the Arab Jordanian experimental novel. This is a novel which has departed from the traditional concept of narration. This paper explores the narrative in this novel through using Gerard Ginette’s concept of narration as a tool to be employed in conveying actions and events. This conveyance takes into consideration the various literary schools. For purposes of research, the paper has focused on the following issues in order to bring forward the literary and esthetic qualities of the novel and the characteristics of narration: 1- A detailed study of the title and the first chapter of the novel, and its general outline. 2- Types of narration used in the novel and meaning related to those types: a- Characters, story, message and function. b- The chronological order of events and its importance. c- Frequency of events in the novel; repetition of such situation and its significance to the narrative. d- Events duration in comparison with the narrative. The variation in the narrative techniques used with specific messages and events; the artistic qualities and distinctive stylistics.
