Abstract

During the rabi seasons of 1986–87 and 1987–88, the efficacy of five insecticides, viz., monocrotophos, endosulfan, fenvalerate, decamethrin and cypermethrin and two nonedible vegetable oils, namely, n(em and karanj oil were evaluated against the gram pod borer (Heliothis armigera Hubner) on chickpea. All the insecticides were effective in controlling the pod borer infestation, Highest grain yield was obtained with endosulfan 0.08%) 2028.7 kgfha, followed by endosulfan (0.06%) 1971.1 kg/ha, monocroto-phos (0.04%) 1944.2 kg/ha, endosulfan dust (1.2 kg a.i./ha) 1875.5 kg/ha, decamethrin (0.001%) 1862 5 kg/ha, endosulfan dust (0.8 kg a.i./ha) 1853.3 kg/ha and fenvalerate (0.01%) 1850.0 kg/ha. Maximum economic advantage (C:B ratio) was obtained with endosulfan (0.06%) 1:14.4, followed by endosulfan (0.08%) 1:12.1, decamethrin (0.001%) 1::11.8, monocrotophos (0.04%) and fenvalerate (0.01%) 1:11.1.
