This paper reviews the literature on\nfactors affecting the yield and nutritional value of\ncreated wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum,.\nA. desertorum or A. fragile). The Agropyrons are\ncool-season perennial bunch grasses that are grown\nin the western United States and Canada where annual\nprecipitation ranges from 9 to 18 inches (230 to\n460 mm) and forage yield ranges from 400 to 3000\npounds of dry matter per acre (450 to 3360 kg/ha).\nForage production in the northern Great Plains is\nbest correlated with April to June precipitation\nwhereas in the area west of the Rocky Mountains production\nis best correlated with total autumn to\nspring precipitation.
