Abstract
In the same way as television did not replace movies but merely opened up new dimensions in entertainment, the digital world is not replacing the printed word but is giving us new and additional dimensions of knowledge. Information competency is the ability to exploit information in various formats. The article reviews the efforts of California colleges to make information competency a true part of higher education through coursework and supplemental study.
