Abstract
This article discusses the importance of sound, coordinated city and traffic planning as the best means of dealing with urban traffic congestion. The focus is on the need to develop urban roadways that are practical and economically feasible, utilizing mass transit to the extent possible, and improving the major street system without radical changes or realignments. Planning experience in the city of Chicago, Illinois, is related.
