CITY WORKS WITH NEIGHBOURHOODS TO MITIGATE TRAFFIC.

The city of Tucson, responding to neighborhood concerns about increasing traffic volume and safety issues in some areas, established the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. The overriding considerations in solving traffic problems in the neighborhoods was safety, the impact of unnecessary traffic on neighborhood environments and maintaining emergency vehicle access. The concept of the NTMP has allowed neighborhoods to reclaim their streets and sense of community. The success of the effort is a product of the department of transportation, traffic engineering and Tucson residents working together.
