Abstract

Ag contents is determined in seme minerals belonging to mineralization outcrops in the Peloritani Mts. \nChemical tests were mainly carried out by A. A. and electron microprobe. \nSince galena and sphalerite are the most common minerals, greater past of the data come from these. Where purity and quantity allowed, we analyzed pyrite, pyrrhotite, antimonite, tetrabedrite, Mn ad Fe oxides. \nGalena ad sphalerite contained minimum quantities of Ag in the Molino Giampilieri area (about 100 ppm) Going southwards, arounds Fiumedinisi, we find a increase, with a maximum of 2000 ppm of galena in the old S. Carlo mine ad 2660 ppm of tetrahedrite in Zillì. \nIn mineralizations in the Alì area, Ag is mainly found in galena with an average of about 1100 ppm (Tripi 1200 ppm, Viola 1300 ppm, Utra 1050 ppm, Piadaci 900 ppm). Maximum Ag content is normally found in galena and tetrahedrite, but in some of the examined mineralizations the highest Ag content was found in sphalerite. In some cases, the lack of continuity in the silver distribution-especially in galena-can be related to the presence of various generations of minerals distinguished in numerous Peloritan mineralizations. \n
