Abstract
The elementary mechanics of oil deposits (depletion and water drives) and of secondary and tertiary recovery are briefly surveyed. The behavior of oil in capillaries of rock under water, surfactant, and polymer injection is explained using sketches. The importance of increasing oil recovery even by a few percent is pointed out.
