Abstract
A century ago scientific literature was completely devoid of terminology referring to symbiotic relationships between plants and animals. Symbiosis as we understand it was an area almost completely unexplored. Early investigators were non-pulsed by the appearance of green, yellow- brown, and bluish-green bodies in tissues of invertebrates. Their interpretations were as varied as their observations.
