Abstract

The authors propose that the intellect is a very special adaptive device. Human cognition, in spite of being totally implemented in a brain, is hard to reduce or explain in neurophysiological terms. This is why, with the background inspiration of cognitive science, the authors propose a model for consciousness, based upon two hypotheses: (a) the core of human cognition is consciousness; and (b) the theory of dynamical systems furnishes a good conceptual tool to endorse a project that compatibilizes reduction and emergence of the mental to the physical.>
