Effectiveness of In-Service Science Teaching Training for Better Science Teaching Practices at Elementary Level

Pre-service and in-service teacher training systems are presently working in Pakistan. Here in this research in-service system is evaluated. Objective of the study was to diagnose the impact of in-service teacher training on the performance level of secondary science teachers. The performance level of teachers was evaluated by assessing their working style, use of laboratory for science teaching, use of modern strategies for science teaching and use of other A.V.Aids in teaching of science. For this purpose, a sample 62 head teachers from two districts (Abbottabad and Mansehra) of Hazara Division. For data collection a five point rating scale was developed to explore the nature of in-service training and its effect on professional competence of science teachers. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS software. Descriptive data analysis techniques were used to address the designed objectives and hypotheses. Data analyses revealed that in-service teacher training programs have significant impact on the professional competence of science teachers at secondary level. Furthermore, results showed that teachers having in-service teacher training sessions perform better than untrained teachers in the use of laboratory for science teaching, attitude and competence development.
