Abstract

The Oregon Department of Transportation has been working with the other jurisdictions and agencies in the Portland Metropolitan Area for the past 4 years to develop a regional advanced transportation management system (ATMS) program integrating freeway, arterial roadway, and transit systems. TRANSportation PORTland (TRANSPORT) is a high-tech project that is characterized by the commitment and teamwork of numerous jurisdictions. The different tools and strategies that are in operation or development in Region 1 consist of a traffic management and operation center, incident response teams, ramp meters, variable message signs, and closed-circuit television cameras.
