Long term developments in land use patterns are surrounded by uncertainties. The complexities of land use, exemplified by the fact that land use interacts with most aspects of everyday life, and the incertitude of the future make it difficult to develop founded views and visions on future land use. Several attempts have been made in the past decades to model land use in order to get a better understanding of land use patterns and mechanisms
