Efficacy of Certain Eco-friendly Pesticides Against Citrus Butterfly, Papilio demoleus

Abstract

Studies on the efficacy of some eco-friendly new insecticides like novaluron 10 EC, emamectin benzoate 5 SG were undertaken on eggs and 2nd and 4th instar larvae of Citrus butterfly Papilio demoleusLinn. under Laboratory conditions along with plant derived insecticide neem (Azadirachtin) 1500 ppm. Chlorpyriphos 20 EC, which is a conventional, recommended and popular insecticide has also been included in the studies. The results indicated that more number of unhatched eggs (94.44%) were recorded with novaluron (0.01%) followed by emamectin benzoate (0.005%), chlorpyriphos (0.04%) and neem 1500 ppm @ 3ml/l of water being the least (61.1%). Three days after imposing the treatments on 4th instar larvae, novaluron gave 85.0 per cent motality followed by emamectin benzoate (75.0%), chlorpyriphos(65.0%) and neem 1500 ppm (65.0%) in the descending order. Similarly, after 7 days of spraying, novaluron indicated 94.8 per cent mortality followed by emamectin benzoate (84.5%), chlorpyriphos (59.4%) and neem (59.4%).
