Hospitalization vs. Home Care of Children

I write with regard to the Commentary in Pediatrics (34:1), July, 1964. Whatever the reasons, in South Africa the care of sick children is much more home centered than what I have observed in England and especially America and Canada. Here there is no alternative such as "If he is too sick to be brought to the office then he is sick enough to be in hospital." I rarely find it necessary to confine a child to hospital, and would like to present my experiences in this regard with respect to gastroenteritis and dehydration.
