Abstract
The aim of this research was to compare characteristics of flower scent among lily species and to grasp the flowering stage and the part of a flower which emits the greatest amount of flower scent using an electronic nose. Cut flowers of Lilium Asiatic Hybrids 'Enchantment', Lilium longiflorum 'Georgia', and Lilium Oriental Hybrids 'Con Amore' were used as plant materials for comparison. There were great differences in flower scent composition among species as Lilium Asiatic Hybrids had three peaks, Lilium longiflorum had four peaks, and Lilium Oriental Hybrids had six peaks. The content of flower scent was the greatest in Lilium Oriental Hybrids, while it was the least in Lilium Asiatic Hybrids. The most diffusive stage of scent was at the beginning of flowering stage in Lilium Asiatic Hybrids. On the contrary, it was at the wilting stage in both Lilium longiflorum and Lilium Oriental Hybrids. The most diffusive organ of a flower was outer perianth in Lilium Asiatic Hybrids, pedicel in Lilium longiflorum, and inner perianth in Lilium Oriental Hybrids.
