Abstract
The first part of this article examined the usefulness of spatially-integrated data to transportation and clarified the difference between geographical information systems (GISs) and other database systems using spatial data. GIS benefits were summarized and examples of GIS activities at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and state highway agencies were described. This part (Part 2) covers further applications of GIS to transportation and provides sources for digital geocoded data. It then concludes with a discussion of hardware and software requirements, topology, overlay processing, and those special issues involved when designing a GIS for transportation applications.
