Abstract

The mooring of a storage tanker to a single-point mooring (SPM) by a rigid yoke is replacing the conventional SPM system for oilfield storage installations but not for transportation terminals, because the needs are different. The storage tanker is liable to be located far out where weather conditions are severe. Throughput to the storage tanker is relatively lower but must be continuous, and the pressures handled are an order of magnitude greater than at transportation terminals. Replacement of the soft mooring by a yoke provides many practical improvements in maintenance, in stability of the storage vessel during bad weather, and in offloading to transportation tankers. Stern mooring of the storage vessel becomes available as a desirable option. Data are provided on all floating storage installations to date, including detailed site conditions for rigid-type moorings.
