Abstract

The methods of radio frequency interference (RFI) suppression in radio astronomy are considered. Estimates of signal-to-noise ratios for temporal, frequency, and spatial processing are made for single-antenna radio telescopes, as well as for a radio interferometer. Examples of RFI waveforms and radio source observations with RFI suppression are given. Application of real time digital signal processing for RFI suppression is shown to be an effective means for maintaining the sensitivity of radio astronomy observations in a worsening radio-ecology environment.
