Abstract
Five experimental diets were formulated by replacing the CP of a concentrate mixture through incorporation of Leucaena meal at 0 (T1), 30 (T2), 60 (T3), 99 (T4) and d00 (T5) per cent level. The in vitro disappearance of DM, CP and m imosine was studied at varrous time intervals using rumen liquor from cattle and buffalo. It was observed that as the levels of Leucaena in the concentrate mixture increased, the IVDMD values decreased ssgnificantly (P<0.05) both in cattle and buffalo. The extent of CP disappearance increased with the increase in incubation time and levels of Leucaena in the concentrate mixture. The extent of CP disappearance was rapid during first 6h of incubation but the extent of mimosine disappearance decreased with increased levels of Leucaena at essch ttme intervall It appeared that cattle and buffalo degraded mimosine similarly.
