Abstract
The US Department of Energy's (DOE) program in commercial low-level waste (LLW) management has two primary functions: development of improved LLW management technology for use by the public and private sectors and assistance to states as they implement their responsibilities under Public Law 96-573, the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Act. Current activities and overall direction of the program are discussed.
