Abstract
Dirofilaria immitis infection in dogs is an increasing problem throughout much of the United States and is no longer limited to the South. Vector mosquitos are present and transmission may occur during the summer months throughout the southern, eastern, and midwestern states. In addition to pulmonary nodules, D immitis and related species cause symptomatic subcutaneous nodules. Physicians should be alert to this differential diagnostic possibility.
