Australian National Crash In-Depth Study (ANCIS)

ANCIS is a collaborative research study comprising members from the Federal Department of Transport and Regional Services, the automotive industry, State transport authorities, injury compensation agencies and the motoring authorities. The Monash University Accident Research Centre in Melbourne manages the program. In-depth crash investigations are undertaken in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania with a focus on both crashworthiness and crash involvement. Cases comprise a representative sample of passenger vehicle occupants who are hospitalised from a road crash. Details collected including medical details, vehicle damage and site information are entered into an anonymous database for subsequent analysis. Findings are made available to the study participants and published in an annual report.
