Abstract

The relation between the behavior of the magnetic field and charged particle distribution in the outer magnetosphere is investigated. The role of the seasonal and daily variations of the geomagnetic dipole axis and allowance for the interplanetary field in determining the shape of the magnetosphere and the distribution of charged particle fluxes are discussed. The magnetic field distribution, obtained theoretically, is compared with the results of the empirical model of the magnetosphere of Mead and Fairfield. 22 references.
