Abstract

Among the countries bordering the Indian Ocean, India, endowed with 2.02 million sq. km of EEZ along a coastline of8129 km and 0.5 million sq. km of continental shelf with a catchable annual marine fishery potential of 3.93 \nmillion tonncs occupies a unique position. Besides, there are vast brackishwater spread areas along the coastline which offer ideal sites for seafamling and coastal mariculture.
