Abstract

The spectrum of electrons inelastically scattered from excitation known as the giant resonance in oxygen. lt is shown that the giant resonance is formed by two principal electric dipole transitions, with excitation energies and relative intensities in agreement with theoretical estimates. Two bands of excitation at energies equal to twice the energies of the giant resonance transitions are also observed. An experimental form factor is calculated for these transitions, which permits a multlpole assignment. (auth)
