Abstract
A 90 deg sector of a circle of approximately 500-foot radius was contaminated with-a La/sup 140/ aqueous solution to an approximate level of 0.65 millicuries per square foot as a means of simulating an area approaching an infinite contaminated field. Radiation measurements were made in an open hole with a PDR-27A radiac instrument to determine the percentage of the total radiation which was due to scattered radiation (skyshine). This was found to be approximately 11.5%. These measurements were made at selected points from approximately 42 inches above to 24 inches below ground level. Data were obtained in a miniature basement to determine the attenuation of the skyshine by various thicknsses of concrete on the roof. (auth)
