This chapter provides a general discussion on the development of transfrontier conservation areas (TFCAs) in Africa and presents an overview of succeeding chapters on the concept of TFCAs; peace parks; local regional and global initiatives for TFCA development; TFCAs in Southern Africa; community attitudes against TFCAs; ecotourism and the future of environmentalism in Africa.
