Abstract
Abbreviation and blending are regarded as two of the most active ways of word-formation in modern English. The article also compares neologisms of modern Russian to those of English in regard to the similar ways of formation. New lexical morphemes are the result of these processes. The criteria for considering neologisms new lexical items are the paradigm and further word-formation.
