Abstract
The authors discuss a field experiment in the Berkshire mountains in western Massachusets. The objectives of this study were threefold. First, to determine the concentrations of the major airborne acid-deposition precursors: sulfate (SO/sub 4//sup =/), nitrate (NO/sub 3//sup -/), and sulfur dioxide (SO/sub 2/). Second, to identify the contributions to these concentrations from regional source areas (Midwest and Northeast) using multivariate statistical procedures. Third, to determine the feasibility of utilizing the results from these statistical methods to determine the regional source contributions to wet acid deposition. The results are summarized in this paper.
