Abstract

Rayleigh-Taylor instability initial value problems are set up in terms of the velocity potential formulation for inviscid fluids, the stream function formulation for viscous fluids, and the DNS formula tion, which is applicable to both inviscid and viscous fluids.Explic it solutions of these initial value problems are obtained for halfspaces, double half-spaces, thick and thin sheets, and stratified media for both time-independent and time-dependent imposed accelerations. 1.
