Abstract

The Nuclear Waste Policy Act established the process for the selection of suitable locations for disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste within geologic repositories. The construction of the Exploratory Studies Facility (ESF) is one of the activities required for site characterization of the Yucca Mountain Project site as a potential repository. The site is located in southern Nevada. This paper describes the safety assessment for the underground facilities for the ESF
