Abstract

It was shown that under conditions where an effective heterogeneous dissociation of H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ takes place, to initiate a homogeneous reaction of the oxidation of methane, small amounts of an initiator, H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ ( about0.01%), are sufficient. A possible mechanism has been discussed, in which the initiation proceeds by alkyl peroxide radicals formed as the result of the reaction between H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ and RH on the surface.
