Abstract
The relationships between lamb growth and carcass traits of 3017 crossbred progeny of 29 Texel, Dorset and Border Leicester sires, with their LAMBPLAN across-flock estimated breeding values (EBVs) were analysed. Regressions are presented for birthweight, weaning weight and postweaning weight on sire EBVweight; carcass GRfat and Cfat on sire EBVfat; and carcass eye muscle depth and area on sire EBVmuscle, within sire breed and dam breed cross. The ranges in regressions were 0.1-0.9 kg/kg EBV for postweaning weight, 0.0-0.5 mm/mm EBV for GRfat and -0.2-0.8 mm/mm EBV for eye muscle depth, with an expectation for each of 0.3. The results confinn the usfuhress of across-flock EBVs for weight, fat and muscle in the selection of sires for crossbred lamb production.
