This chapter describes Ca and Mg availability and fate in soil in sugarbeet fields; causes of Ca deficiency in plants; effects of Ca and Mg on sugarbeet physiology and yield; dynamics of Ca in sugarbeet plants; perediction of the response of sugarbeet to Mg by soil analysis; forms of Mg fertilizer; effects of soil acidity, soil pH and liming on sugarbeet; and methods for determining lime requirement.
