Abstract

This book examines some of the important strategic issues facing both the producers and the consumers of oil and gas, at a time when the world oil industry is facing a difficult period of over-supply and falling prices. Underlying all the papers in this book is the theme of the need for strengthening the cooperation between producing and consuming countries, especially between the countries of the Arabian Gulf and the members of the European Community. The contributors argue that without close collaboration in the development and conservation of oil and gas resources, the world oil industry will be unable to meet future energy demands. Collaboration is also vital in trying to bring peace to the Middle East; without stability and peace in the Arab World, long-term security of supply from much of the world's oil reserves is threatened.
