Abstract
The partnership between Serere Agricultural and Animal Production Research Institute, a Public Institution, and Private Sector, National Agricultural Advisory Services and Civil Society Organisations in the development and promotion of Epuripur sorghum variety for the production of high quality beers meeting international standards in Uganda has proved successful to date. Because of this partnership, farmers have improved their incomes and standards of living at house hold level. There is also a sense of pride and ownership amongst Ugandans for providing beer drinkers with a home grown product at more affordable prices. The strategy implemented in the development and commercialisation of this sorghum variety offers several useful lessons for research for development.
