Abstract
Leukotriene blockers include receptor antagonists (montelukast, zafirlukast) and 5lipoxygenase inhibitor (zileuton). The position of these drugs in the treatment of asthma in adults and children is defined in a seminal paper on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of this disease – GINA «Global Strategy for prevention and treatment of asthma». Clinical efficacy of montelukast (may be administered to children aged two years) has been proved in more than 50 controlled studies involving a total of more than 25,000 patients. In the present article discusses the most important clinical trials of montelukast in preschool and school age suffering from bronchial asthma.
