Abstract
This project was designed to determine what energy savings can be achieved by coordinating the resources and requirements of two facilities currently operated independently of one another. The study showed that three energy exchange options using conventional technologies can be implemented. The operation of the proposed system will achieve a projected energy savings equivalent to the use of 25,000 bbl/yr of oil. The projects also demonstrated that energy exchange systems are economically feasible and federal, state, and local subsidies for Starrett City can be reduced as a direct result of reducing operating costs. A data base is available for evaluating other decentralized energy systems of existing facilities. The public and private sector can also cooperate on energy exchange programs of this type. 5 figures, 3 tables. (DP)
