AN ANALYSIS OF THE DEIXIS USED IN THE BOURNE IDENTITY MOVIE’S SCRIPT

Abstract

This research studies the form and the reference of the deictic words. The object of the study represents of the phenomenon of the using deictic words in the Bourne Identity script movie. In this research the writer uses the categories of deixis promoted by Levinson (1983). To conduct this research the writer use observation and documentation method to collect the data’s needs. The observation is done by watching the film in several times. The main objective of this research is in finding the form and the reference of deictic words. In order to obtain the objective mentioned, the data is gathered in the form of conversation excerption. After that, the writer analyzes the deixis forms in the discourse of deixis by exploring the various kinds of deictic words phenomenon. In finding the meaning of deictic words the writer uses the discourse of pragmatics. In this case the writer uses contextual and situational meaning. The result of this research are 1) In person deixis the deictic words are moveable based on who is speaking, who is the addressee and the hearers. The using of name can be used in the first, second, and third reference. 2) In place deixis form is found that the location of the word reference not only determined by where is the location of speaker at CT but also where the addressee is and the gestural indicated. 3) In time deixis form, adverbial words always need certain temporal parameters in finding the reference. The phrase forms often come up in time deixis. 4) Social deixis always needs the social standing between the participant roles at CT. 5) A deictic word in discourse deixis has unlimited reference because this deictic word can represent anything.
