Abstract
The formation of ZrO/sub 2/ in a Mo alloy containing 0.11% Zr, 0.002% B, 0.004% C, and 0.002% O/sub 2/ is studied after pre-crystallization annealing nt 1200 deg C for 3 h and high temperature annealing at 1600 deg C for 1 and 10 h. Dispersed spherical particles of ZrO/sub 2/ are observed in the alloy after annealing at 1200 deg C. The sample annealed at 1600 deg C for 1 h contained dispersed particles of ZrO/sub 2/ in the surface layer. Annealing at 1600 deg C for 10 h led to the formation of ZrO/sub 2/ crystals throughout the entire volume of the alloy. The process of the formation of ZrO/sub 2/ at the location of former subboundaries increases with increase of the depth. The pattern of the internal oxidation process is discussed. (JSR)
