PERBEDAAN KEKAMBUHAN PASCA EKSTIRPASI PTERYGIUM METODE BARE SCLERA DENGAN TRANSPLANTASI LIMBAL STEM SEL

Background : Pterygium is kind of disease at conjunctiva that have high level of reccurence after extirpation . Many factors influence the recurrence of pterygium such as kind of operation . The aim of this research is to know the difference of pterygium recurrence after extirpation between two kind of operation. Method : This study was an analytical study with retrospective approach. The samples were taken from all pterygium patient after bare sclera extirpation and limbal stem cell transplantation that fill inclution criteria in Dr.Kariadi Hospital Semarang and Williamboth Hospital on period 1 January 2004 – 31 December 2006. The data were analyed with chi – square test. Result : Based on chi – square test find that result of recurrences after bare sclera operation and limbal stem cell transplantation have no significantly difference ( p = 0,261 ) . Recurrences after bare sclera find in 10 patient (21,7%) and limbal stem cell transplantation find in 6 patient (13%. This was caused by other risk factors that effect on pterygium recurrences. Conclusions : There is no significantly difference of recurrences after extirpation between that two kind of operation. Difference result from literature because other risk factors that can’t be controlled. Key words : Pterygium recurrent , Bare sclera extirpation, Limbal stem cell transplantation
