Abstract
The subject of concrete mix design is examined and advice is given on the selection of appropriate mixes to obtain certain required properties in given circumstances. Concrete mixes and their properties are discussed in the following chapters: 1) background to mix design; 2) the properties of plastic concrete; 3) the properties of hardened concrete; 4) mix design for medium compressive strength; 5) methods of combining aggregates to obtain desired gradings; 6) gap-graded concrete; 7) mix design for high strength concrete; mix design for air-entrained concrete; 9) lightweight aggregate concrete; 10) mix design for tensile strength; 11) the use of statistics in mix design; 12) some other concretes. (TRRL)
