Abstract
The Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is testing load-deferral devices for commercial and industrial customers participating in a utility load-management program. Special thermostats were designed to allow temperatures to rise 1.5/sup 0/F in order to cut energy used for air conditioning. Equipment was carefully selected to permit a direct exchange for the existing thermostat. The thermostat chosen has a normal, temperature-adjust and emergency off-setting with fail-safe control. A customer acceptance survey is included in the trial-testing period. Participating companies receive monthly discounts and free maintenance on the control systems.
