Abstract

Structuration is sociological theory of Anthony Giddens explaining agency relationship and structure. According to structuration theory, the relationship agent (actor, actors) and structure (system) are dualistic that reciprocity and not duality relationship is one to dominate the other. That between agency and structure cannot be understood separately from each other, both of them are one that is all social action involving a structure, while all structures involving social action. Agency and structure are closely interlaced in activity called social practice which is continuously done by human in together life. In the perspective of sociology, structuration theory is a critic towards Parsonian functional structuralism paradigm that emphasizes the dominance of structure and Weberian interpretative paradigm that emphasizes the role of the main actor. By structuration, Giddens tries to offer eclectic between the roles of actor and structure in reciprocal relationships dynamically.
