Abstract
The authors find spectrophotometrically that the reaction of TcO/sub 4//sup -/ with U/sup 4 +/ in HCl solution occurs according to the reaction 2TcO/sub 4/ + 3U/sup 4 +/ + 4H/sup +/ + 10C1/sup -/ = 2TcCl/sub 5//sup -/ + 3UO/sub 2//sup 2 +/ + 2H/sub 2/O, the rate of which is given by the expression -d (Tc /SUP VII/ )/dt = k (Tc /SUP VII/ ) (U /SUP IV/ )/(H/sup +/). The rate constant is k = 152 + or - 9 min/sup -1/ at 60 degrees C for ionic strength mu = 2; the activation energy is E = 98.3 + or - 1.2 kJ/mole. The authors discuss the reaction mechanism.
