Abstract

For running a pearl culture industry, a steady supply \nof pearl oyster seed is a pre-requisite. Collection of \npearl oysters from the natural beds is not always dependable, \nowing to their irregular production. Inspection \nof pearl oyster beds during the last three decades has \nproved this. There are three ways to raise pearl oyster \nspat for pearl culture farms: (1) setting up of artificial \nspat collectors at subsurface during oyster spawning \nseason (2) collection from the natural beds and (3) \nhatchery production of seed.
