Abstract
This chapter introduces the crops that, although traditionally grown, will most likely persist for cultivation in the future because of their diverse use which can be further enhanced by genetic improvement. These crops include cereals and pseudocereals; legumes; edible and industrial oil-producing crops; non-wood fibre crops; industrial crops; energy crops; fruit and nut crops; vegetables; aromatics, culinary herbs and medicinals; and ornamentals.
