Abstract

The Arts Education Research Center began operation in the fall of 1987 at two sites: the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and New York University. The agendas of the two sites varied greatly in orientation, objectives and approach to research. They were, however, guided by a common mission: enhancement of the research effort in arts education and development of innovative approaches to the improvement of arts education.
