Abstract

In 1985, Senator Howard Metzenbaum introduced the Aspartame Safety Act. The legislation responded to the growing concerns being expressed in the scientific community regarding the safety of aspartame, better known under its brand name “NutraSweet.” At the present time, the Senator is considering a revised version of the bill for introduction in the current Congress.
